People that tell you not to do HPSP, or say its not worth it or you can make enough in private practice, simply aren't doing the math. Let me show you the math. Army pays tuition = 400k I get paid about 20k after taxes each year just to go to school (stipend), plus a 20k sign on bonus.Deployments in every branch is variable in length. Navy can be as low as 3.5 months and as long as a year. As far as deploying on a ship, it is very possible to do a career in Navy medicine and never get underway on a ship.
